Exactly as the previous answerer indicated. Windows Vista is in recent times too new. Microsoft still have to tweak it, release the updates, and work out all the bugs near it.
XP is mature, and fully skilful of your gaming needs =)
Plus, I don't see the point within having a fresh operating system, if your old programs won't work on it.

Definatly XP. Not only because window vista needs 2gb of bump to run efficiantly, but not a lot of games are compatible next to vista yet. Go near XP for sure.
