why does my notebook keep restarting itself after 20 minutes or so?

This isn't to turn against coreyog's answer but I personally wouldn't have a sneaking suspicion that it was a virus or nil like that, and if it keep restarting after 20 mins you not be able to do a full scan of your computer surrounded by that time.

It sounds to me more like a hardware damp squib, the power supply box is a one for always going and this cause the computer to keep restarting

Install, update, and scan your computer beside all these.

It is possible that it is a virus or trojen of some kind but this also sounds similar to it could be caused by overheating. Depending what open-handed of system you are running your system will automatily shut down if it gets too hot. I would build sure that your fans are working properly. Depending on your system you can also download utilitys that will give a hand you determine your system temp. hope this helps.
Could be a power suply problem depending on how weak your system is try a different power pack to see if this cures the problem if it does take a look inside your one and see if any of the capasitors are beveled, i have an idea that they will be as this is common near power suplies over five yrs old.
