My processor is spiking for no explanation lately, why?

I hold an Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz processor and lately, for no apparent origin it will spike to 80-100% usage for a split second(enough to skip music, video or the likes). It does it regardless of what programs I have undo, firefox, IE, winamp, or anything. I'm running Windows XP. I was thinking possibly I had spyware, but I can't appear to locate any at all. Any design, or possible fixes? It's quite annoying and I'd approaching to fix it.

if not,

try using window defualt display driver instead and see what happens.
Have you installed a program lately? it's possible that your resources are a bit low
check out whats running contained by the background, could be cause by a program startup or worm, disable any start up programs you dont need, scan for spyware and adjectives that other good stuff.
