i keep hold of gettin pop ups, not respondin windows, and files download by themselves resembling some mirar toolbar.

Here is a free anti-spyware tool by Microsoft and it does real-time scanning/blocking which you won't find in most free anti-spyware solutions..

Running these two tools along with Windows Automatic Updates and Windows firewall which are included within XP/Vista will protect you from the most common shelter threats on the internet.
Sounds like adware/spyware. Do you own any antivirus or antispyware?



AVG and Avast are free antivirus.

Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware are free antispyware (though they only scan, not block)



Get one of the av's and the antispywares, and run scan. Hope it works. If not, try spysweeper with antivirus (paid product) or spyware doctor (also paid).



If the free stuff doesn't work and you don't want to spend any money, restore your system to similar to new near your recovery set. Backup your background first; you'll lose it on the restore.
